The SPARCstation 5 delivers the fast applications performance required by today's networked enterprise user though a balanced design that includes; the new, high performance, microSPARC(TM)-II processor as well as state of the art TurboGX(TM), TurboGXplus(TM), and ZX graphics accelerators. The new innovative package delivers complete flexibility, configurability, and expandability that provides the foundation for the growth and innovation needed by the enterprise networked user. The SPARCstation 5 incorporates access to state of the art technologies such as collaborative multimedia and high speed networking that are crucial to the success of the enterprise network user. In addition the SPARCstation 5 provides outstanding investment protection through a simple, cost effective, board swap upgrade to the muliprocessing SPARCstation 20. Sun is also introducing a new 17-inch premium color monitor. The monitor is being introduced with the SPARCstation 5 and SPARCstation 20 systems. It will not be configured on systems that are being removed from the price list. Other systems will switch over to the new monitor in a phased manner. The 17-inch monitor is capable of running 1280 x 1024 resolution at 76 Hz, as compared to 66Hz on the old 16-inch premium monitor. Can I use memory from other desktops in the SPARCstation 5? A. No. The SPARCstation 5 uses new industry standard Jedec memory SIMMs that are specific to the SPARCstation 5. Q. Does the memory need to added in pairs, like the SPARCstation LX? A. No. Memory is available in 8 MB and 32 MB SIMMS and can be added individually and you can mixed different densities. There are 8 SIMM slots allowing for a maximum of 256 MB of memory. Q. How many internal peripherals can the SPARCstation 5 accomodate? A. Four internal peripherals. 2 disks, CD-ROM and a floppy. The base system will include one disk, the remaining peripherals are optional. Q. Is there graphics on the mother board? A. No. Graphics requires an SBus slot (ZX requires 2 slots) Q. What is the resolution of the 15-inch color monitor? A. On the SPARCstation 5 the 15-inch monitor resolution is 1152 x 900, and the graphics card is CG3 based. Q. What is the difference between the the 17-inch and the 16-inch monitors? A. Compared to the 16-inch premium 1. The physical design. 17-inch is bigger. 2. Captive cable. Both have captive cables. 3. Performance. The 17-inch has better performance. 4. Resolutions: no 1280 x 1024 on the 16-inch midrange Compared to the 16-inch premium 1. The physical design of the units. The new 17-inch is bigger and takes up more volume. This may mean custom enclosures cannot be used 2. Captive cable. The new 17-inch has a video cable integrated into the display. This means that customers using their own cables will have to redesign them because of gender differences 3. Performance. No difference. They are both premium 4. Resolutions: 1280x1024@ 66Hz only for the 16-inch 1280x1024@ 76Hz as well for the 17-inch SunSpectrum Description Number Price Cat Silver Price ================================================================================ End User Price List-Net Pricing Qty-1 15"C, CG3, 16MB, 535MB S5DC-70-16-P44 $3,995 ND $80 20"Gr.Sc, TGX, 16MB, 535MB S5MX1-70-16-P44 $6,395 A* $80 17"C, TGX, 16MB, 535MB S5FX1-70-16-P44 $6,595 A* $80 17"C, TGXPlus, 16MB, 535MB S5FX4-70-16-P44 $8,595 A* $80 20"C, TGX, 16MB, 535MB S5TX1-70-16-P44 $8,395 A* $80 20"C, TGXPlus, 16MB, 535MB S5TX4-70-16-P44 $10,395 A* $80 20"C, TGX, 32MB, 1.05GB S5TX1-85-32-P46 $11,395 A* $80 20"C, TGXPlus, 32MB, 1.05GB S5TX4-85-32-P46 $13,395 A* $80 20"C, ZX, 32MB, 1.05GB S5ZX-85-32-P46 $19,995 A* $80 *Maximum discount may apply.
