The "Successful Migration to High-Speed Networks" seminar, sponsored by Fast Ethernet Alliance members, will be held in the following US cities: San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston (131 lines) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fast Ethernet Alliance, of which Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. (SMCC) is a founding member, made the following announcement earlier today, March 21, 1994, regarding a nationwide seminar series to educate customers about the implementation of Fast Ethernet. SMCC is a sponsor of these seminars. For any questions regarding the seminars, contact Tony Lee, SMCC marketing, (415) 336-0687. Forward all press inquiries to Junne Moy, SMCC PR, (415)336-0544. FAST ETHERNET ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE FAST ETHERNET SEMINAR SERIES The "Successful Migration to High-Speed Networks" seminar, sponsored by Fast Ethernet Alliance members, including 3Com Corp., Cabletron Systems, Digital Equipment Corp., Grand Junction Networks, Intel Corp., LANNET, National Semiconductor, Standard Microsystems Corp. (SMC), Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. and SynOptics Communications, is designed to educate information system professionals on technological issues that must be addressed for implementing 100Base-T. The half-day educational seminars will consist of presentations made by Fast Ethernet Alliance members, and will provide an in-depth look at the standards and technology issues related to the implementation of Fast Ethernet such as: * How to migrate smoothly from existing 10Base-T installations to 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet * How to improve network performance and still maintain existing wiring, software, network management tools and Ethernet expertise * How to evaluate different high-speed technology solutions Seminar participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about Fast Ethernet and its implementation in their own network environments during a panel discussion. The Fast Ethernet Alliance will sponsor the seminars at five locations in April: Location Date Venue ------------- --------------------- ------------------------ San Francisco Monday, April 18 Hyatt Burlingame Dallas Wednesday, April 20 InfoMart Chicago Thursday, April 21 Hyatt Regency Rosemont Atlanta Monday, April 25 Hotel Nikko Boston Wednesday, April 27 Hotel Sonesta (Cambridge) Seminar registration begins at 7:30 am and is followed by a continental breakfast at 8:00 am. The seminar ends at noon. The seminar registration fee of $150 includes a continental breakfast and copies of all presentation materials from the seminar presentations. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-536-3064, ext. 503. The Fast Ethernet Alliance recognizes that bandwidth-intensive applications such as data transfer, graphical interfaces, document management, CAD/CAM and emerging multimedia technologies are driving the need for high-speed networks. The Alliance's goal is to give customers 10 times the performance of today's 10Base-T products at less than two times the cost. The Fast Ethernet Alliance is an open industry group formed to extend the existing Ethernet standard in response to industry demand for increased network bandwidth and to address customer needs for interoperability among a breadth of Fast Ethernet products. The members of the Alliance provide over 60% of the Ethernet products to the networking market and are committed to supporting industry standards for Fast Ethernet. Fast Ethernet Alliance supporters include: 3Com Corp., Cabletron Systems, CNet, Cray Communications, Cypress Semiconductor, DAVID Systems, Digital Equipment Corp., Du Pont, Exar, Grand Junction Networks, Hughes LAN Systems, Hyundai Electronics, IMC Networks, Intel Corp., Interphase Corp., JLP Associates, LAN Media Corp., LANNET, Microlinear, Montrose Products Co., National Semiconductor, NEC, Network General, Networth, Novell, Olympic Technology Group, Packet Engines Inc., SEEQ, SMC, Sun Microsystems, SynOptics Communications, Unisys and Wellfleet. The Alliance will continue to present draft specifications to the IEEE for the 100Base-T standard and expects a stable draft standard for 100 Mbps CSMA/CD Ethernet to be completed in mid-1994. ********************************************************************** For information about SunFlash send mail to info-sunflash@Sun.COM.
