Delivering twice the power of the popular SPARCstation LX, this ultra-slim workstation reflects unsurpassed ergonomics, offering a tilting, flicker-free active-matrix LCD display and very quiet operation. This new Sun(R) system also introduces breakthrough nomadic capabilities for users who demand a powerful workstation with remote networking outside the office. (140 lines) 63.61 Solaris to Run Macintosh Applications SunSoft, Inc. announced that it has signed a technology and marketing agreement with Apple Computer, Inc. to provide Macintosh applications on Solaris. The agreement calls for SunSoft and Apple to cooperate in the development and testing of Apple Computer's Macintosh Application Environment (MAE). The agreement also allows SunSoft to include a trial version of MAE in future versions of Solaris. (76 lines) 63.62 SunSoft to Offer Solaris Developer Solution Pak For x86 SunSoft announced the availability of the Solaris(R) Developer Solution Pak, a specially-priced, fully-bundled development environment providing a comprehensive toolset for developers of Solaris x86 applications. Priced at $995, the limited-time offering is available through June 30th and includes the Solaris x86 operating environment, Solaris Software Developer Kit (SDK), SunPro's ProWorks(TM) C development environment and three months of technical support. Purchased separately, the collection of products would cost a developer more than $3,000. The Solaris Developer Solution Pak is also available for C++ developers for a list price of $1,195. (124 lines) 63.63 SPARC Technology Business (STB) Expands Design Kit Offerings SPARC Technology Business (STB) has expanded its board design kit offerings to include two new advanced designs based on the microSPARC(TM)-II and SuperSPARC(TM) microprocessors. These new Microprocessor Platform Design Kits, which contain core board design information, enable STB customers to rapidly and economically build products similar or identical to Sun Microsystems' most advanced products. Moreover, STB has added a microSPARC(TM) Platform Design Kit -- previously available only for complementary applications -- to its board design portfolio. Through these new offerings, STB has enabled and accelerated the unrestricted development of products, implementing the SPARC(R) architecture, which are similar or identical to boards offered by Sun. (91 lines) 63.64 STB Takes microSPARC(TM)-II to 85 and 100MHz SPARC Technology Business (STB) today announced sampling of high-end 85MHz and 100MHz microSPARC(TM)-II RISC microprocessors. In addition, STB has announced pricing for a highly-integrated SPARC(R) solution consisting of a 70MHz microSPARC-II and the companion STP2000/2001 SBus combination-I/O chipset. Announced in October, the microSPARC-II -- with over twice the performance of the original microSPARC processor -- is a scalable "system on a chip" intended for low-cost, low-power systems. (82 lines) 63.65 STB Transportable Technologies to Complement microSPARC(TM)-II SPARC Technology Business (STB) is expanding its semiconductor portfolio by making available newly-designed system support logic for the portable workstation market. The new devices, companions to the recently-introduced microSPARC-II(TM) RISC processor, include a power management controller, monochrome and color LCD controllers and a single-chip PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) controller.
