Mclaughlin, Publisher & Editor - flash@sun.com ____________________________________________________________________________ 67.41 SunSoft Motif 1.2.2 Royalties to OSF From: dayyee@gigahz.Eng.Sun.COM (Dianna Ann Yee) Sun Microsystem Inc. requests the assistance of all developers who have created Motif-based applications utilizing the Motif 1.2.2 toolkit from SunSoft. SunSoft is obligated to pay OSF (Open Software Foundation) royalties for Motif 1.2.2 based applications distributed for internal or external use. The DISTRIBUTION of any Motif-based application other than a Run Time Copy must be accounted for on a per-copy basis, and must be reported to SunSoft on a quarterly basis. "Run time copy" is defined as a copy of any subset of routines from the libXm, libXrm, or libUil library files in object code form which is statically linked within an application program and executable only with that single application. (61 lines) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact: Dianna Yee SDK Product Marketing For example, a developer MUST report if he/she distributes any of the dynamic libraries libXm.so, libMrm.so, or libUil.so as a part of the application. However the developer does NOT need to report if the application is statically linked to the Motif libraires, or if the application dynamically links to Motif libraries delivered as a part of the Solaris operating system. Quarterly reports regarding the number of applications distributed should be sent to the following address: SunSoft Finance Department Attn: Josephina Shen 2550 Garcia Avenue MS MTV08-108 Mountain View, California 94043 The Motif 1.2.2 toolkit was distributed as an unbundled product (for Solaris 2.2 SPARC), and as a part of the Solaris 2.1 SDK for x86 and the Solaris 2.3 SDK for SPARC. Developers who are currently distibuting Motif applications and Motif dynamic libraries based on Motif 1.2.2 from SunSoft are requested to submit their reports to SunSoft immediately. Please note that SunSoft, and NOT the individual developer, is responsible for paying the Motif royalties to OSF. Developers who developed and distributed applications based upon Motif purchased from vendors other than SunSoft need not report their application numbers to SunSoft. Any questions regarding the payment of Motif 1.2.2 royalties to OSF should be directed to Jim Mukerjee, SunSoft Product Marketing Manager for Motif, or Dianna Yee, SunSoft Product Marketing Manager for the SDK.
