DiskSuite 2.0 will not be available from Sun after February 7, 1994. Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 - Is identical to the 2.0 release except that it incorporates patch #101231-02, a mandatory patch for use with DiskSuite 2.0 - Fixes four bugs that caused system panics in obscure cases - Is supported on all the same Solaris(R) releases--Solaris 2.1 and later releases--as was Online: DiskSuite 2.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ------------------- Online: DiskSuite is an unbundled software product providing high data availability. All Online: DiskSuite 2.X releases provide three key capabilities: 1) Disk mirroring for data availability 2) Data striping across disks and controllers for higher I/O throughput 3) Support for creation and extension of UNIX(R) file systems larger than 2 GB. ((note that files are still limited to 2GB. Database products that use raw disks should not use metapartitions larger than 2GB - johnj)) COMPATIBILITY ------------- Data and data configurations created with the Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 release are 100% cross-compatible with the DiskSuite 2.0 release. No reformatting or data conversion of any sort is required between the two releases. UPGRADE ------- Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 will be automatically sent to customers having software support contracts. Customers with Online: DiskSuite 2.0 but not covered by a software support contract can effectively upgrade to Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 by obtaining and installing mandatory patch #101231-2 from their Sun service provider. TRANSITION FOR OEMS ------------------- Because of the minimal and well defined changes between the 2.0 and 2.0.1 releases, Sun does not recommend mandatory retesting or re-certification by OEMs or other resellers of products embedding DiskSuite 2.0.1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- System requirements are unchanged from the Online: DiskSuite 2.0 release, which were: Minimal Configuration: Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 runs on any SPARC(R)-processor based system with at least 16 MB of main memory and at least two free disk partitions. Typical configurations are 32-MB RAM, over 1 GB of disk space, and 2 or more disk drives. Maximum Configuration: Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 is flexibly configurable. The software will support the largest SPARCcenter(TM) 2000 and SPARCserver(TM) 1000 configurations with the maximum amount of configured disks. Limitations on the number of configurable meta-devices in the 1.0 release of Online: DiskSuite have been removed. Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 is supported on Solaris 2.1 operating environment and later releases. Online: DiskSuite is a software only product that is independent of controller or drive hardware. It works with SCSI, IPI, and SMD controllers from Sun. The Online: DiskSuite software is 1.5 MB in size. The AnswerBook(TM) documentation is 2.0 MB in size. LOCALIZATION ------------ Online: DiskSuite 2.0.x releases provide only English language messages and prompts. AVAILABILITY ------------ Online: DiskSuite 2.0.1 becomes the default release of Online: DiskSuite on February 7. Orders shipped prior to February 7 will be fulfilled with Online: DiskSuite 2.0. Online: DiskSuite 2.0 is no longer available from SMCC effective February 7, 1994. Online: DiskSuite 1.0 for Solaris 1.X releases remains available on the SMCC End User and Reseller price lists ---as is Solaris 1.1.1---for buyers with on-going commitments to ship Solaris 1.X-based configurations.
