Solaris 1.1.1 combines the support of the current Solaris 1.1A and 1.1C releases into a single Solaris 1.x release. Customers now have a single 1.x release to deploy and support across platforms supported by the two previous 1.x releases. The Solaris 1.1.1 release enhances the quality of the 1.x environment as all major bug fixes for the 1.1A and 1.1C releases are included in the 1.1.1 release. Solaris 1.1.1 maintains full compatibility with previous 1.x releases. NEW FEATURES ------------ - Solaris 1.1.1 supports all Sun SPARC systems supported by the Solaris 1.1A and 1.1C releases - Quality improvement over previous Solaris 1.x releases as all major Solaris 1.x patches are integrated in the new release - Support for the 5-GB 4mm Backup Tape Drive and the 535-MB disk drive SOLARIS 1.1.1 TRANSITION ------------------------ The Solaris 1.1.1 release replaces the 1.1A and 1.1C releases. As of the First Customer Ship (FCS) date (December 6, 1993), Solaris 1.1.1 will be the default version of Solaris 1.x shipped when ordering off the price list. Solaris 1.1A and 1.1C remain orderable through release specific part numbers. (e.g. SX-4.1.3-21 and SC-4.1.3-P). SPARCclassic(TM) and SPARCstation(TM) LX(TM) systems will continue to bundle Solaris 2.x license only. Customers wishing to run 1.x on these systems must order a Solaris 1.1.1 license and media separately (SC-P or SC-L). Changes to 1.x documentation for the 1.1.1 release are reflected in the SunOS(TM) Release Minibox SX-9E. Other parts of the 1.x documentation set (SX-09) are unchanged. Customers wishing to order Solaris 1.1A documentation can do so by using product specific part numbers. All Sun unbundled software products were tested and run on Solaris 1.1.1. Some unbundled software products require patches to run these products. For details refer to the Solaris 1.1.1 Late-Breaking-News document available as part of the Release MiniBox SX-9E. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------ Solaris 1.1.1 supports all SMCC platforms that were supported with Solaris 1.1A and 1.1C releases. SPARCstation ELC(TM), SPARCstation IPC(TM), SPARCstation IPX(TM), SPARCstation 2, SPARCclassic, SPARCstation LX, SPARCserver(TM) 600MP Model 120s and 140s, and SPARCstation 10 uniprocessor systems. In addition, Solaris 1.x users now have support for the 5-GB 4mm Backup Tape Drive and the 535-MB disk drive. UPGRADES -------- Customers who have purchased a software support contract will automatically receive the Solaris 1.1.1 release. Customers without a software support contract will be required to purchase a Solaris 1.1.1 upgrade license for each system (USX-00P) and media per SX-21 (may be used on multiple systems). AVAILABILITY ------------ The Solaris 1.1.1 products are available as follows: Solaris 1.1.1 is orderable and is shipping immediately. European localized versions (French, German, Italian and Swedish), Korean, Chinese for China, Chinese for Taiwan, and Japanese versions will be available in January 1994. Details concerning the above international versions will be announced in early January of 1994. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS --------------------- Q. What release of Solaris 1.x will ship with what systems?
