LOTUS NOTES BUNDLED FREE WITH SUN SPARCSERVER SYSTEMS MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- February 23, 1994 -- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today announced that it is bundling Lotus Notes, the de facto standard for collaborative workgroup computing, at no charge with every SPARCserver system shipped in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Germany through June 30, 1994. Offering tremendous power and scalability, the Sun SPARC Solaris platform is the first UNIX platform on which Lotus Notes client and server software is commercially available. By including a coupon for Lotus Notes software plus six licenses (retail value of up to $2,770 US) with its servers, SMCC gives customers an opportunity to take full advantage of Notes' workgroup capabilities and application development environment. Lotus Notes allows people to access, track, share and organize information, even if they are only occasionally connected to a network. Since its introduction, nearly 3,200 companies and more than 750,000 people are using Lotus Notes to improve business processes, including customer service, sales and account management and product development. Lotus Notes is now available for Sun, Windows, OS/2 and Macintosh platforms. Lotus Notes will be bundled with all Sun SPARCserver systems, ranging from the low-cost SPARCclassic server to the industry's most powerful and expandable high-end UNIX server, the SPARCcenter 2000 data center server. According to Jeffrey Papows, vice president of the Lotus Notes Division for Lotus Development Corp., "Lotus Notes' availability on SPARC systems significantly expands the reach of groupware, delivering powerful, enterprise-wide solutions for new and existing Sun users." "Lotus Notes is a hardware-independent, application development and deployment platform that can help an enterprise become more productive by tying together users of Sun, Windows, Macintosh and OS/2 systems within an enterprise," said Curt Wozniak, vice president of marketing, SMCC. A coupon for Lotus Notes software, including one server and five client licenses, will be bundled with SPARCserver systems shipped through direct and indirect channels beginning March 9, 1994 and ending June 30, 1994. Customers will be able to redeem these coupons until December 31, 1994. For more information, call Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation at 1-800-821-4643.
