A fully-compliant implementation of SVR4, the international versions of Solaris 2.3 are comprised of localized SunOS(TM) 5.3, ONC+(TM), and localized OpenWindows(TM) V3.3 which includes localized DeskSet(TM) productivity applications. European and Japanese versions of Solaris 2.3. are now available via the US and International price lists and will support all Sun SPARC-based systems. The Latin American Spanish version of Solaris 2.3 will be available on the US and International Price Lists beginning mid January 1994. Customers in the U.S. receive a license to only run English Solaris 2.x when they purchase a Sun system. An order for a separate international license must accompany the sale of a localized Solaris Media Kit - when sold in the US. No export or redistributions of the product is allowed except under PASSPORT terms and conditions. Yes, users can display English and one Pacific Rim language simultaneously using Solaris 2.3. With European Solaris 2.3, users can select different languages via OpenWindows Version 3's Properties Menu, users can simultaneously use the DeskSet in several different European languages. Q. What codesets are supported by Japanese Solaris? A. Japanese Solaris uses AT&T's EUC (Extended UNIX Code). Q. Are the DeskSet tools localized? A. Yes, the DeskSet tools are fully localized with translated language buttons, messages, date formats, etc... Also, several additional tools are included to help in the creation of Japanese fonts. Q. What compiler is necessary to develop applications on Japanese Solaris? A. SunPro compilers and SPARCworks(TM) can be used to develop applications. Can I still develop applications or the Japanese market? A. Yes, the Japanese specific documentation has been translated into English (SOL-46-TD). Of course, a Japanese development partner will be necessary to translate an ISV's own application messages and documentation.
