The SunMicrophone II is a uni-directional microphone which allows greater focus on direct voice input while providing less interference from background ambient noise. SunMicrophone II will ship in the system ship kits for SPARCclassic(TM), SPARCstation(TM) LX(TM) and SPARCstation 10 system configurations and future workstations. Microphones will no longer ship in country kits. The only exception is for the SPARCstation IPX(TM) which will continue to ship the current SunMicrophone in the IPX country kit. The SunMicrophone II is not compatible with the following Sun systems: SPARCstation 1, SPARCstation 1+, SPARCstation 2, SPARCstation IPX, SPARCstation IPC(TM), SPARCstation ELC(TM), SPARCstation SLC(TM) systems and SPARCclassic X X-terminal (compatible with SPARCclassic X upgrade). The current SunMicrophone is compatible with the above systems (exception SLC and SPARCclassic X) and will be offered as an X-option on the SMCC price list and through SunExpress. The SunMicrophone requires the Sun audio cable to work, which can be ordered through SMCC as a spare or through SunExpress. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS --------------------- Q. Does the SunMicrophone II look similar to the SunMicrophone? A. No, the two products look very different. The current SunMicrophone has a unique square shape, with an on/off switch. The SunMicrophone II looks like a classic microphone on a rectangular stand, with no on/off switch. Both products come in Sun colors and with Sun logo. Q. Do you use the two products the same way? A. No. The current SunMicrophone is omni-directional which means the user can use it at a distance. However, this also allowed a lot of background noise to be picked up as well. The SunMicrophone II is a uni-directional microphone which means the user speaks directly into the microphone (either by picking up or leaning into). The uni-directional SunMicrophone II reduces background noise and interference. Q. Is the SunMicrophone II offered as an X-option? A. No, the SunMicrophone II will not be offered as an X-option. All systems that are compatible with the SunMicrophone II will receive the microphone in the system ship kit. SunExpress will offer the SunMicrophone II. Q. Will the SunMicrophone II plug directly into the Sun workstation? A. Initially, systems shipping with the SunMicrophone II will require an adaptor (ships with the microphone). Once new systems are shipping and replace current products, the adaptor will no longer be required. AVAILABILITY ------------ The SunMicrophone II will begin shipping January 7, 1994 in system ship kits.
