(92 lines) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SMCC OFFERS NEW SUNPRO SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TOOLS FOR MULTIPROCESSING APPLICATIONS MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- January 26, 1994 -- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today announced that the first integrated suite of core software development tools for enterprise-wide UNIX(R) client-server applications is available immediately. The new SunPro WorkShop(TM) suite gives software developers an edge in the rapid development and deployment of mission critical applications. Introduced yesterday by SunPro(TM), a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., the suite includes a full range of development tools for the SPARC(R)/Solaris(R) platform. SunPro WorkShop is offered in three configurations -- C, C++ and FORTRAN -- for developers running the Solaris 2 operating environment for systems based on the SPARC(R) processor. The product suite features the industry's first multi-threaded development tools, SPARCworks(TM)/iMPact, for SPARC multiprocessing systems. It also includes highly optimized compilers, individual rapid development tools and workgroup productivity tools. All SunPro WorkShop products support tool integration through ToolTalk(R), the COSE standard for inter-application communication. As the leader in systems for UNIX software development, SMCC is offering SunPro WorkShop as part of its comprehensive development environment, which includes the SPARC/Solaris platform and more than 900 third-party software applications. SMCC's line of development tools is designed to meet the full range of development needs in areas such as high-performance, multi-threaded applications and cross-platform environments. "SunPro WorkShop is an integrated, cost-effective solution for software developers," said Bob Vieraitis, group manager of operating system and developer environments at SMCC. "It dramatically improves productivity and makes possible rapid development and deployment of applications for distributed client-server environments." "With specialized tools like SPARCworks/iMPact, developers can take full advantage of SMCC's advanced multi-threaded and multiprocessing capabilities to rapidly produce higher-performance applications," Vieraitis added.
