SUNSOFT UNVEILS COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE AND SUPPORT PROGRAM PC EXPO, New York, June 29, 1993-- SunSoft, Inc. today announced a comprehensive service and support program for the company's product line. Building on Sun's ten years of experience in servicing Global 1000 companies, the program will include Authorized Service Providers, Authorized Education Centers, and Alliancesm Programs. The new programs are designed to service the growing demand for SunSoft's Solaris and INTERACTIVE UNIX System product lines. SunSoft has already shipped a record 250,000 Solaris 2 licenses in six months. More than 650 applications for the Solaris 2 environment are shipping today from software vendors including Autodesk, Ingres, Oracle, and Sybase. With 800,000 UNIX licenses shipped, Sun already offers more than 550 UNIX experts to handle the 550,000 annual support calls throughout 24 support centers in 125 countries around the world. "Satisfying the enterprise-wide networking needs of Sun customers requires years of experience in client-server support," said Walt Brown, director of support services at SunSoft. "With the new programs, Sun will provide 24-hour quality service to meet the needs of technical and commercial customers worldwide." The programs include: SunSoft Authorized Service Providers In addition to Sun's Worldwide Customer Support organization, SunSoft today announced that Bell Atlantic Business Systems Service, Computervision, and CSA Automated Systems of Singapore have become Authorized Service Providers(ASP). As a special promotion over the next 90 days, Solaris 1 SPARC customers that purchase a one year upgrade support contract from a SunSoft ASP will receive a Solaris 2 upgrade at no additional charge. Authorized Service Providers offer services such as telephone and electronic mail support, on-site service, and annual support contracts to receive SunSoft product upgrades. To ensure program success, SunSoft trains its service providers to support new versions of SunSoft products, gives them access to SunSoft's on-line support databases, and backs up the providers with problem escalation procedures. SunSoft Alliance While most SunSoft customers will benefit from the Authorized Service Provider Program, some require a direct support relationship with SunSoft. Typically, these customers require support of source code products or new SunSoft technologies. Customers who seek direct service from SunSoft can purchase the SunSoft Alliance or SunSoft Alliance Plus programs. These service programs allow customers to call SunSoft support engineers directly and give customers access to SunSoft's on-line support database. The program is particularly useful for system manufacturers who need close technical coordination with SunSoft. SunSoft Authorized Education Centers SunSoft has established 15 Authorized Education Centers to provide qualified training and education. The centers conduct in-depth technical certification courses on SunSoft products for end users, system administrators, developers and service providers. These include CSA Automated Systems of Singapore, Siemens AG in Germany, Tower Education in the United Kingdom, Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States, as well as other centers located in France, India, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. These centers offer 14 courses ranging from non-technical introductory skills to system administration troubleshooting.
