Today's announcement is part of SunSoft's strategy to leverage the rapidly growing desk-top computer market in PRC. With China's third consecutive year of double digit GNP growth rate, its becoming one of the most desirable computer markets worldwide. With the new OEM agreement, the Sixth Research Institute will be granted worldwide rights to distribute the systems made in China. Joining more than 20 vendors that are already making SPARC-based or compatible systems, the Sixth Research Institute will first supply its systems in China. Now PRC users and developers will be able to take advantage of the maturity and efficiency of the Solaris 2 software environment. In addition, SunSoft's NFS(TM)/ONC+(TM) environment will enable users to enjoy ease-of-use and interoperability on the enterprise network. "Sun has long been the workstation of choice in the PRC, and we are proud to team up with SunSoft to bring the capability of making the Solaris/SPARC- based systems into China,"said the President of the Sixth Research Institute. "The scalability of Solaris will enable us to offer complete client-server solutionsusing desktops made in China." "China is a potentially a large market for Solaris/SPARC systems," said Edward J. Zander, president of SunSoft, Inc. "We are pleased to partner with the Sixth Research Institute and look forward to a long and successful presence in the PRC."
