SunLink OSI 8.0 provides customers with a powerful platform for implementing SunConnect's high-performance new suite of Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) communication products, SunLink File Transfer, Access and Management (FTAM), SunLink X.400, SunLink Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) and SunLink Virtual Terminal (VT). SunLink OSI 8.0 allows diverse computing systems to quickly and easily share resources and information across departmental, organizational and international boundaries. The SunLink OSI 8.0 platform, which is designed to be compliant with industry and the U.S. Government Open System Interconnection Profile (GOSIP) V2 specifications, will ship with an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) that greatly reduces installation time and provides an easy to use interface for application development and administration. "We've been working closely with our government customers for years providing them with the functionality and enhancements they've asked for in our OSI products," said Jean-Pierre Baudouin, director of product development at SunConnect. "Our products offer enhancements that go beyond meeting base OSI requirements. For example, the easy to use GUI allows our customers to move quickly through the traditionally complex tasks associated with configuring, administrating and maintaining an OSI network allowing them to unleash the power and versatility of a complete OSI suite." SunConnect is a leading supplier of solutions for complex heterogeneous networks in vertical markets such as government, telecommunications, finance, transportation and utilities that need to integrate OSI with SPARC(R)systems running the Solaris computing environment. SunLink FTAM software gives users direct use of FTAM initiator/responder services through an Application Programming Interface (API). The CCITT 1988 X.400 message handling support in SunLink X.400 connects both UNIX(R) and Sun(TM) system electronic mail users to worldwide e-mail networks through an SMTP/X.400 gateway which includes a full set of development tools (APIs include XOM and XAPIA) for mail gateways, classical messaging applications and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). The SunLink CMIP product can be used by Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to develop OSI-based network management applications. In addition, SunLink CMIP works with SunConnect's management console, SunNet Manager,? to allow telecommunication businesses such as local and long distance carriers to manage their networks through SPARC workstations. Support for the ISO Virtual Terminal (VT) service is now included in SunLink OSI 8.0 through SunLink VT enabling local clients to establish interactive connections to remote systems across an OSI network. SunConnect's complete OSI development environment will include standard APIs as defined by X/Open and UNIX International (UI), such as TLI and APLI, to support third party application developers. The SunLink OSI product suite supports XMP, XOM and XAPI APIs and is currently being tested for GOSIP V2 certification. The SunLink OSI 8.0 platform is the core of SunConnect's family of international standards communication (ISO/CCITT) products, and is part of SunConnect's networking strategy which encompasses three initiatives: to build the foundation for the management of diverse and complex global network environments; to provide the products to integrate Sun Microsystems equipment and applications into the full spectrum of networks; and, to provide integration services to facilitate complete customer solutions. This strategy allows users to introduce new applications and technologies into their current environment, while protecting previous network investments.
