C. - June 8, 1993 - SunPro, the software development business of Sun Microsystems, Inc., today announced the availability of the SPARCworks(tm) Professional Ada 2.0 development environment for the Solaris 2 operating environment for SPARC systems. SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 consists of SPARCompiler(tm) Ada 2.0, a MIL-STD-1815A validated, high performance Ada language system, plus SPARCworks/Ada 2.0, a comprehensive suite of programmer productivity tools. SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 delivers faster compilation and application performance, as well as enhanced tool integration through the ToolTalk software from SunSoft, Inc. SunPro is demonstrating SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 in Sun's booth #2230 at AFCEA here this week. With SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0, developers can take advantage of the many high-performance features of the Solaris 2 operating environment, including symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and built-in networking, as well as UNIX System V Release 4 (SRV4) compatibility. "SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 strengthens SunPro's leadership in Ada development tools for UNIX systems," said Jon Kannegaard, vice president and general manager of SunPro. "With the availability of our industry-leading Ada development tools on the Solaris 2 operating environment, users will be able to easily and swiftly move their applications to the most powerful UNIX system environment available today in the government arena." Faster Compilation and Application Performance SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 improves compilation and runtime performance, and enhances tool integration. New compiler features include optimizations that deliver enhanced performance for SPARC systems incorporating the SuperSPARC(tm) chip; dynamic linking of shared system libraries to reduce the size of executables and speed program loading; and the sharing in memory of DIANA* information across multiple source files to speed the building of Ada libraries and large programs. Also new in SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0, the SPARCworks/Ada 2.0 toolset incorporates ToolTalk messaging to link individual tools and enable third-party software vendors to easily integrate their tools with SPARCworks/Ada and access them through the SPARCworks Manager. * Descriptive Intermediate Attributed Notation for Ada, a common intermediate language used by most Ada compilers. SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0 is fully compatible with previous versions of SunPro's Sun(tm) Ada Development Environment which runs on Solaris 1.x. Many developers have already moved their Ada applications to Solaris 2 using SunPro's SPARCompiler Ada Porting Kit, available in late 1992. Integrated Toolset for Ada Development SPARCworks/Ada 2.0 consists of a set of integrated programmer productivity tools to speed and simplify the tasks Ada developers do most often, including AdaVision, an object-based user interface to graphically browse and manage Ada libraries; AdaDebug, to examine, control and debug applications; LRMTool, to quickly access information in SunPro's on-line Ada Language Reference Manual; EditTool, to synchronize compiler error messages with source code; FileMerge, to compare and merge source files; and SPARCworks Manager, to launch and manage individual session tasks. Through the integration of ToolTalk messaging in SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0, SPARCworks(tm)/TeamWare, a suite of tools that provide code management, version control, and software release management for teams of programmers, is also available. Pricing and Availability SPARCworks Professional Ada 2.0, including the suite of SPARCworks/Ada 2.0 development tools and SPARCompiler Ada 2.0 for the Solaris operating environment, is available this month through SunPro Authorized Resellers worldwide. The SunPro suggested list price ranges from U.S. $10,000 for a single-user license to U.S. $7,480 per license, as part of a 25-license package.
