This alliance will enable CdDI to offer -- for the first time -- a complete mechanical/electrical design and finite element analysis solution on one platform. CAP debis will provide interfaces for multiple third party products including CdDI custom software for computer-aided engineering analysis and electrical layout (MEDINA, DISCO, NIS-CAD and RUPLAN). These CAP debis applications will now run on the Solaris(R) operating environment on SMCC's industry-leading SPARCstation(TM) and SPARCserver(TM) systems. During the next six months SMCC and CAP debis will hold several executive symposiums in Europe to present the integrated products to potential customers. Customers will also have the option to "test drive" pre-configured solutions at no cost for up to three months. In addition to the technical integrated solutions, CdDI offers customers extensive expertise in systems integration and development of customized software applications. CdDI can help manufacturers in all phases of their business: engineering consulting, integrated enterprise-wide engineering solutions and complete project/facilities management. Mario Dal Canto, director of SMCC's technical and industrial market development group said, "CdDI has extensive experience in software integration, the ability to migrate high performance CAD/CAM/CAE engineering solutions to a client/server architecture, and powerful software development tools to customize applications quickly." Dr. Hartmut Brand, president of CdDI, emphasized that SMCC is a leading supplier of workstations and servers worldwide, dominating the technical and industrial markets. "SMCC's superiority in client/server computing combined with CdDI's expertise in engineering will provide the best solutions for our customers in the future," said Brand. This alliance addresses the growing customer demand for integrated, UNIX-based client/server engineering solutions. Manufacturers in the aerospace, automotive, electronics and machine tool industries are moving toward concurrent engineering and digital simulation to reduce the time to market and the cost of new products. Reducing time to market is achieved by enabling the design and manufacturing organizations to collaborate in the product development process. Offering the integrated, off-the-shelf applications on one platform also significantly reduces the cost of system purchase and ownership. The alliance will provide a fully integrated environment that facilitates cooperation and sharing, integrates tools and data, and manages the processes associated with product development. These include design, standard parts management, electrical layout, finite element modeling, tooling selection, numerical control programming and process planning. CAP debis is the leading systems integrator in Germany with over 30 offices. CAP debis Division Industrie is a division of the debis Systemhaus, which is a subsidiary of the Daimler- Benz InterServices (debis) AG. In 1992, debis Systemhaus generated nearly one billion dollars (U.S.) in revenue with 6,200 employees. Furthermore, CAP debis is a strategic partner of CAP Gemini Sogeti -- Europe's leading software company.
