Unique Program Reaches Thousands From Moscow To Buenos Aires Via Satellite Signal MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. June 2, 1993 Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) today announced that its popular "Sunergy (SM) Live" interactive satellite broadcast will be aired on June 8 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). The latest broadcast marks the sixth in a series of Sunergy programs and features a discussion of multiprocessing and multithreading technologies -- key benefits of the Solaris (R) environment. The broadcast will reach more than 500 downlink sites with an expected audience of 50,000 people. This Sunergy show is the first to offer a Spanish language channel. Sunergy, hosted by John Gage, director of Sun's Science Office, reaches an international audience of developers, users, system administrators, business decision makers and the media. Sunergy's guest speakers will include Curt Wozniak, SMCC vice president of engineering, Jon Kannegaard, vice president of SunPro, Karl Danz, OS development manager at SunSoft, and Keith Erskine, SunSelect product manager. The Sunergy broadcast program brings Sun's executive management, distinguished engineers and developers to television screens in over 40 countries around the globe. All broadcasts are interactive, allowing viewers to call in questions and get answers from Sun executives during the show. Past Sunergy topics have included: networking, telecommunications, object-oriented technologies, rightsizing and document image management. All viewers can also receive an electronic newsletter and access to technical whitepapers, speaker support material and a reading list relating to show topics. Sixth Sunergy Broadcast Brings MP, MT and Wabi To Light On June 8, Sunergy will focus on the new computing paradigm of multiprocessing (MP) and multithreading (MT) technologies from both a hardware and a software perspective and discuss the advantages for servers and desktop systems. The show will also discuss Sun's recent Wabi (TM) announcement and feature an on-air demonstration of the new technology. Wabi allows UNIX (R) users to run Microsoft Windows (R) applications native on their systems. From Moscow To Buenos Aires -- Satellite Technology Makes It Happen The Sunergy broadcast uses advanced satellite technology to make interactive communication possible between Sun executives and Sunergy viewers. The broadcast is produced in a studio near Sun's headquarters in Mountain View, California. The signal is uplinked to a satellite over the United States and broadcast to domestic sites. At the same time, the broadcast signal is downlinked in Florida and converted into the appropriate international format (PAL, or SECAM in Europe, for example) and sent to the satellite over Europe. An additional satellite transmits to Latin America and Japan. The downlink sites consist of customers who have existing satellite downlink equipment. The Sunergy team works with each downlink site to assure that viewers have appropriate technical information and have tested the downlink/satellite connection a few days before the actual show. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Sunergy Satellite Technical Details From: David.Howard@Corp (Dave Howard) Please share these with your sites.
