Under the commercial system integrator (CSI) agreement, Control Data will integrate Sun TM systems with other products and services and add value in the form of a full range of integration services; consulting; application solutions such as mechanical CAD software; E-mail integration; storage management solutions and application frameworks; database management; networking; and maintenance. Initial target markets include manufacturing, telecommunications, utilities, financial services and healthcare. Control Data expects this agreement to strengthen its range of integration solutions and to generate significant revenue from Sun-based solutions, according to Jim Ousley, president and CEO of Control Data Systems. The company joins several other leading system integrators, such as Andersen Consulting, EDS and Price Waterhouse, in forming a CSI agreement with SMCC. Relationships with top commercial integrators are part of SMCC's strategy to leverage the contacts and industry application expertise of these commercial firms. The agreement with Control Data underscores the increasing demand for open systems, and especially Sun systems, in the commercial area. Currently, approximately 35 percent of Sun Microsystems revenue is derived from commercial markets. "As a worldwide system integrator, we listen carefully to our customers' needs and preferences," said Ously. "Since SMCC has the largest installed base of desktop workstations and servers, we found growing demand among our customer and prospect base for integration solutions based on Sun products. This CSI agreement with SMCC will enable us to provide extremely effective solutions based on Sun technology to our customers, and provides significant new business in our integration efforts." "Control Data has the right open systems integration model and a proven record as a first-rate system integration service provider," said Scott McNealy, CEO and chairman of Sun Microsystems, Inc. "There is no doubt that they will give customers the support and know-how needed to put together enterprise-wide solutions with Sun systems."
