Called NeWSprinter(tm) 20 Hi-Feeder, the new accessory quadruples the paper capacity of SunPics' PostScript(r) language compatible network printer, NeWSprinter 20, from 500 to 2,000 total sheets. Conceived and designed specifically for NeWSprinter 20, Hi-Feeder offers the highest level of integration and ease of use for high capacity feeders in the rapidly expanding class of sub-$10,000 network printers. It easily attaches below all new and existing NeWSprinter 20 units so no extra space on the desktop is required, and it operates at the printer's full rated speed of 20 pages per minute. As a result, NeWSprinter 20 now meets the needs of the most demanding workgroups and networked office settings. SUNREADY WITH EXCLUSIVE FEED DESIGN Hi-Feeder comes SunReady(tm), giving users perfect plug-and-play installation and easy start-up on Sun(tm) systems. Out of the box and with no extra tools, it attaches to NeWSprinter 20 by placing the printer on top of the feeder and plugging the original power cord into Hi-Feeder. It requires no special cabinetry or stand. Even when paper is being drawn from either of NeWSprinter 20's 250-sheet A and B-size trays, Hi-Feeder can be re-stocked without causing jams or taking the printer off-line. For high reliability and reduced footprint, Hi-Feeder also offers an exclusive electro-mechanical "Internal-Feed" capability that enables Hi-Feeder to pass paper sheets into an attached NeWSprinter 20 above. Like all Sun printers, Hi-Feeder with NeWSprinter 20 is driven by NeWSprint(tm) software, the leading UNIX(r) print management software solution that runs under the Solaris(r) 1 or Solaris 2 operating environments. Inside NeWSprint, a graphical user interface called NP Tool gives users complete control of NeWSprinter 20 and Hi-Feeder. Under NeWSprint 2.5, Hi-Feeder operates automatically with the NP Tool interface. For NeWSprint 2.1 and earlier versions, a simple software upgrade to NP Tool is included on a compact disc, which is shipped with each Hi-Feeder. SPECIFICATIONS AND AVAILABILITY NeWSprinter 20 Hi-Feeder is offered in two models, one that supports U.S. letter size paper, and another that supports metric letter A4. Both models hold 1,500 sheets of 20-pound paper and feature an automatic elevator design with built-in safety switch and interlock. The feeder's power source, like the universal power supply of the NeWSprinter 20, comes ready for worldwide use. No additional power cord is required. Duty cycle of the NeWSprinter 20 with Hi-Feeder is 50,000 pages per month. Rated life is 1.5 million total pages or five years. Hi-Feeder weighs 28.5 pounds and measures 20 in. (width) by 17 in. (depth) by 10.5 in. (height). Attached to NeWSprinter 20, the combined unit weighs 78.5 pounds and measures 23.5 in. high with no increased width and depth. Hi-Feeder is supported worldwide by Sun's customer service organization. It is available immediately at a suggested retail price of $1,295. (Street prices are not quoted by SunPics.) Hi-Feeder is available through SunExpress (1-800-USE-SUNX) and authorized SunPics resellers, including Access Graphics, Intelligent Electronics and Arrow Electronics. SUNPICS PRINTING OVERVIEW SunPics extends network printing beyond the so-called "intelligent" printing model by using the SPARC(r) CPU and networking technology of workstations and servers based on the Solaris operating environment to power printing processes. By this method, devices can be automatically and inexpensively upgraded through software, and printing resources - such as fonts and forms - can be distributed throughout the network for greater consistency, flexibility and security. This harnesses a network's printing power and optimizes the printing resources of the enterprise. Central to SunPics' approach is NeWSprint, a modular printing and print management software solution that provides a single architecture across a spectrum of personal printers to data center printing. NeWSprint is supported by more than 100 printer models and SunPics itself now offers three printers based on NeWSprint that are SunReady and connect through Solaris to any computing group. For workgroup printing, there is SPARCprinter(tm), a 12 ppm desktop laser printer that offers high value and price performance. For demanding workgroup printing there is NeWSprinter 20, a 20 ppm laser printer that delivers high speed, high volume and multiple format printing. For color network printing, there is the NeWSprinter CL+(tm).
