Color monitor 20-in. Grayscale monitor - New 4-MB expansion memory X option - SPARCclassic X configurations will be removed from price list 16-in. Mid-range color, 4-MB 20-in. Grayscale, 4-MB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) announces extremely aggressive price reductions on all SPARCclassic(TM) X X-terminal configurations, effective immediately. SMCC's goal is quite simple - if a customer wants to put an X-terminal onto their Sun(TM) SPARCserver(TM) system, that X-terminal will be a SPARCclassic X. Sun will be the dominate X-terminal provider on Sun hosts. With prices 30% to 50% lower than NCD and Tektronix, and clearly superior installation and administration ease, why would a Sun customer purchase anything other than a SPARCclassic X X-terminal? In response to customer demand for more 8-MB systems, two new 8-MB configurations have been added to the price list. These configurations give the customer more memory at a lower price. 15-in. Color monitor, 8-MB 4/10DC-8 20-in. Greyscale monitor, 8-MB 4/10M3-8 A new 4-MB memory expansion X option provides customers with an extra degree of flexibility that saves them money in applications where a full 8 MB of memory expansion is unnecessary. 4-MB Memory (2-MB SIMMs) X104R Two configurations will be removed from the price list. 20-in. Greyscale monitor, 4-MB 4/10M3-4 16-in. Mid-Range color monitor, 4-MB 4/10EC-4 REMOVAL SCHEDULE OF PRODUCT OFF THE PRICE LIST ============================================== November 8, 1993 Announcement of removal of 4-MB 16-in. mid-range and 4-MB 20-in. grayscale configurations December 10 1993 Final day to Issue QUOTE for affected configurations Febuary 11, 1994 Final day to ORDER affected configurations April 8, 1994 Final SHIP date for affected configurations AVAILABILITY ------------ All products are orderable immediately. The new 15-in. color 8-MB and 20-in. greyscale 8-MB configurations available to ship November 15, 1993. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS --------------------- Q. Why is SMCC lowering prices on the SPARCclassic X? A. Today's announcement of price reductions reflects SMCC's committment to the X-terminal marketplace. This price move comes after very aggressive discounting from competitors NCD and Tektronix. It is SMCC's intent to own the X-terminal business on Sun servers. Q. Does the base memory of the 15-in. color, 4-MB configuration use the new 2-MB SIMMs, same as those used in the X104R X option, freeing 4 expansion slots? A. At present it does not. The base memory in the 4-MB configuration still uses four 1-MB SIMM modules; only two slots are open for expansion. And remember, memory is populated in pairs. Q. Can the 4-MB X104R X option be used in the SPARCclassic X X-terminals that was previously purchased? A. Yes. The X104R is completely compatible.
