The new arrangement enables value-added resellers (VARs) to provide increased availability of SMCC's servers to their customers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Access Graphics(R) to Configure Sun(R) Servers Through New Integration Center Configure-to-order agreement provides wider variety, increased availability and faster delivery of Sun servers to VARs Boulder, Colo., December 09, 1993 - Access Graphics, a leading North American distributor of advanced systems and software solutions, today announced an agreement with Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation (SMCC) to configure Sun servers(R) (sic) using a configure-to-order process through its new Integration Center in Menlo Park, California. The new arrangement enables value-added resellers (VARs) to provide increased availability of SMCC's servers to their customers, speeding delivery of even the most unique configurations. Other services partnered in the Integration Center include hardware component integration and software systems loading for VARs. John Ramsey, President and Chief Executive Officer, Access Graphics, stated, "Our objective is to increase our value, add to our partners, and provide services to the VARs that enable them to maximize their selling and consulting time while off-loading system engineering functions. The configure-to-order process allows VARs to spend more of their time where they make the most money." Access will use base configurations and components to configure SMCC's standard SPARCserver(TM) 1000 and SPARCcenter(TM) 2000 systems within two days after a VAR places an order. Customization of the standard SMCC servers will be accomplished at the same time through the addition of x-options (e.g. memory, disks, S-bus cards) in the Integration Center to provide the exact configurations required by VARs and their customers. "The configure-to-order process for servers together with the pre-loading of Oracle software offers SMCC's channel partners increased value and efficiency in the delivery of systems," said Anil Gadre, Vice President of Marketing for SMCC's North America and Australia Field Operations. "The Integration Center gives Access the capability to provide VARs with fast delivery of leading-edge business solutions." The new Access/Sun agreement, along with the recent Access/Oracle distribution agreement, are reflections of Access Graphics' increased focus on client/server, rightsizing opportunities. Sun is the leading UNIX Oracle platform in the U.S., and now Access can provide the exact server configuration for every Oracle implementation. "This is a natural extension of our Support Center services and other strategic initiatives with major independent software vendors (ISVs) like Oracle as we move into the mini-computer software and solutions marketplace. Pre-configuring servers and pre-loading OS and ISV software solutions before they reach the VAR helps drive costs out of the channel, freeing up the resellers' resources for more revenue generating activities," explained Laurie Carlson, Vice President, Sun Systems and Software Solutions, Access Graphics. "This service contributes to our value adding proposition to all our partners, including Sun, Oracle, ISVs, and the resellers." The configure-to-order business further positions Access Graphics as a leading full-service distributor, providing improved service and added value to its VARs. Because a wider variety of VAR system specifications can be handled more easily, VARs should see receipt of product within four days of placing the order. VARs will be able to specify the exact system needed to meet the end-users' requirements and deliver it quickly utilizing Access' fast delivery capability. Access will accomplish the configuration of systems using quality assurance practices, trained technical personnel, and a configuration facility that has been approved by SMCC.
