Based on core Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS technology, the UNIX spreadsheet supports X Windows, integrates Lotus' C Add-in Toolkit and supports Lotus Realtime, a sophisticated technology that feeds real-time financial data directly into 1-2-3. "This announcement is evidence of the success we've had in the UNIX marketplace in the past year. It further underscores the growing popularity of UNIX in business and commercial settings. The products announced today fall directly in line with our cross platform strategy and join our One Source product line in providing specialized applications and solutions," said June Rokoff, vice president of Lotus' Communications and Information Services Group. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems is designed for users who want the most powerful analytics available in a spreadsheet, as well as the distributed network services, multiple windows operation, multi-tasking and support for large memory inherent in Sun's SPARC-based workstation. The software includes advanced 1-2-3 spreadsheet capabilities such as superior data analysis, three-dimensional modeling, relational database functionality, high-impact graphics, over 100 1-2-3 @ functions, network-wide file reservation features and external data access through Lotus' DataLens technology. Lotus Realtime enables financial traders, portfolio managers and analysts in investment and commercial banks, brokerage houses and money management firms to use real-time data in a spreadsheet environment when making investment decisions. Using 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems, traders can now view real-time data, such as pricing information on stocks, bonds, currencies and other traded instruments, using simple graphs and worksheets on one screen, in a variety of colors and graph types. The combination of Lotus' sophisticated real-time technology and the 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems spreadsheet enables real-time market data to be fed directly from a digital data feed into 1-2-3. Real-time data is updated continuously within the spreadsheet, reflecting rapidly changing security values, interest rates, international exchange rates, commodity prices and other global market data. This allows traders to quickly spot market opportunities and assess risk. In conjunction with the announcement of 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems and Lotus Realtime, several prominent financial systems integrators, including ERI, FD Consulting, Inc., FXD/Telerate Systems Incorporated, Market Vision Corporation, Reuters Information Services, Inc., Spreadsheet Solutions, Co. and Teknekron Software Systems, Inc., have simultaneously announced support for Lotus 1-2-3 and Lotus Realtime. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems supports the Sun OpenWindows environment running OPEN LOOK, in addition to SunView windows support. It has also been certified for the industry standard X/11 Release 4 environment running under OPEN LOOK or any X-based window manager. X Terminals such as the NCD (Network Computer Devices) product family have also been certified. The product also features a bundled SYBASE SQL Server DataLens Driver, which allows users of the spreadsheet to easily access data stored in a Sybase SQL relational database management systems (RDBMS). Familiar 1-2-3 commands facilitate read/write access to database information for analysis, manipulation and storage. Lotus 1-2-3 for SUN SPARC Systems is available at a suggested retail price of $695 per license. Registered users of version 1.0 of 1-2-3 for Sun may upgrade to the new spreadsheet at a suggested retail price of $180 per license. License five-packs and additional documentation will also be available. Lotus Realtime can be purchased from Lotus Realtime Business Partner Resellers for a suggested retail price of $1,600 per user. Realtime Toolkits for developing feed servers are available directly from Lotus for $25,000. One Realtime Toolkit can be used to write an unlimited number of feed servers. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems and Lotus Realtime will be available within 30 days. The spreadsheet will be available through Lotus national distributors, including Ingram Micro and Merisel, 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems distributor Access Graphics, ERI and more than 300 authorized Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun resellers. The International English version of 1-2-3 for Sun SPARC Systems is scheduled to ship with the U.S. English version.
