Michael Spence has been appointed to its board of directors. Spence is the dean of the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Prior to joining Stanford in July 1990, Spence served as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard, where he was chartered with overseeing Harvard College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Division of Continuing Education. He served as professor of economics and business administration at Harvard from 1977 to 1990, and served as chairman of the Economics Department and George Gund Professor of Economics and Business Administration from 1983 to 1984. Spence was awarded the John Kenneth Galbraith Prize for excellence in teaching and the John Bates Clark medal for a "significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge" while at Stanford. Spence also serves as a member of the board of Polaroid Corporation, BankAmerica Corp. and Bank of America NT and SA. In addition, he was a member of the board of trustees of the Joint Council on Economic Education and a member of the American Economic Association.
