ANNOUNCEMENT BRIEF

SPARCstation IPC configurations make up Sun's mid-range desktop 
product line, offering:

	- Lowest cost color; lowest cost accelerated color graphics

	- Configurability: internal disk, displays, and graphics
	  (NOW AVAILABLE: 19" monochrome; 16", 19" color; and 16", 19" GX)

	- Expandability: memory, mass storage, SBus

These new configurations enhance Sun's mid-range desktop workstation
product line with a broader offering of display and graphics capabilities.

Basic IPC Product Line Positioning:

	- SPARCstation IPC is Sun's lowest priced color RISC workstation,
	  ideally suited for entry level color applications.

	- SPARCstation IPC GX delivers Sun's lowest cost solution for
	  accelerated graphics with better compute, network, and
	  graphics performance than PCs at PC prices!

	- The IPC line strikes a balance between maximum performance 
	  (SPECmarks, memory and I/O expansion, graphics capabilities) 
 	  and minimum cost.

	- The IPC is Sun's superior workstation alternative to high end,
	  networked PC solutions for workgroup productivity. 

   	- The IPC GX is Sun's superior workstation alternative to networked
          PC solutions for PC CAD.

	- The low priced, color desktop client in the client/server 
	  model is replacement to traditional timeshare environments.

as the SPARCstation 1+ GX, at a much lower price point.  The IPC GX price

Software:

1. SunOS:
   Diskfull SPARCstation IPC systems include SunOS 4.1.1 and Open Windows 
   version 2 pre-installed (SunView 1.8 is also resident on the disk). 
 
  SPARCstation IPC is binary compatible with all SPARCware applications.  

  SPARCstation IPC will operate under SunOS 4.0.3 and 4.1.  To run SunOS
  4.0.3, or 4.1, it must be installed according to the instructions in
  Installing SunOS" and the "Quick Install Guide" that comes with that
  release.

2. Graphics software: 
	* XGL runtime bundled on every system.
	* SunPHIGS 1.2, SunGKS 3.0, SunVision 1.0, and XGL for developers
	  all orderable.
