---------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNISYS RENEWS $10 MILLION AGREEMENT WITH SUN TO RESELL SPARC WORKSTATIONS SunFLASH Vol 18 #23 June 1990 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --June 25, 1990-- Sun Microsystems Federal announced today that Unisys has renewed a one-year master purchase agreement under which Unisys will resell -- and purchase for internal development -- Sun's SPARC(TM)-based workstations and servers. The multi-part agreement, which has a potential value of $10 million, covers Unisys' federal and commercial business and also includes a PC-NFS(R) license. Under the reseller portion of the agreement, Unisys will bundle Sun systems with Unisys-developed software applications for sale to the federal government. There is also an internal-use provision of the agreement whereby Unisys may purchase Sun equipment and use it with third-party software for technical publishing, computer-aided software engineering, mechanical computer-aided design and electronic computer-aided design applications. This Sun-based solution will be used to develop new products at numerous Unisys corporate sites and also to develop systems for new and on-going government programs. The agreement also covers purchases of Sun equipment by Unisys operations worldwide. For example, Unisys CAD/CAM, a Unisys subsidiary in Boulder, Colo., will bundle its Geometric Modeling System (GMS(TM)) with SPARCstations TM and resell the package to commercial markets. GMS is a full-function mechanical CAD/CAM system, with applications software tailored specifically for plastic injection mold design. Finally, the agreement includes a license for Sun's PC-NFS networking product, which Unisys will use internally to connect PCs and mainframes. An implementation of Sun's Open Network Computing (ONC(TM)) environment, PC-NFS allows PCs to share files and resources such as printers in mixed-vendor computing environments. ONC is Sun's modular, scalable set of networking protocols and services.
