	Sun386i to SPARCstation 1+ Upgrade Program

Sun is announcing the  availability of a Sun386i to SPARCstation 1+
upgrade program.

This provides a second choice for Sun386i customers who need
additional performance.  The 486 Upgrade, which will begin shipping
late 1990, will meet the needs of those with requirements for high
performance DOS, VGA capability, or AT Bus compatibility.  The
4/65 Upgrade will meet the needs of those who wish to take advantage
of the price performance characteristics of SPARC.

 
- All configurations include an EXP Modification Kit, so customers can 
  re-use their Expansion Units with 327-Mbyte drive and/or 60-Mbyte tape.

- Customers with internal 327-Mbyte drives can re-use them by ordering 
  the External Storage Module upgrades.

- The Sun386i 91- and 155- Mbyte disks and 3 1/2" floppy drive cannot be
  re-used with this upgrade.  Customers with these drives should order 
  the P3 version of the upgrade (UG-RRC-4/65-8-P3).  The P3 version 
  includes a 104-Mbyte SCSI internal disk and 1.44-Mbyte 3 1/2" internal 
  floppy disk.

- To add a floppy drive to one of the diskless upgrade configurations,
  order the option for a 3 1/2" floppy drive for the SPARCstation 1+ 
  as a separate, chargeable line item.

- The SC (14" color) and SM (15" mono) monitors cannot be used with
  these upgrades.  Customers with these monitors can order new monitors 
  from the Spares Price List.

- DOS Windows is available as a separate, no charge line item when
  ordered with these upgrades.  To use DOS Windows, customers must
  have either a 1/4" tape or a SPARCstation 1+ floppy drive (not
  included with the upgrades).

	NOTE:  The above External Storage Modules are available ONLY
	with orders for this upgrade, at the time of upgrade order.
	External Storage Modules require installation of the 327-Mbyte
	embedded SCSI disk to be supported.


	Configuration notes:
	--------------------
	1.  91-Mbyte and 155-Mbyte disks are not supported.
	2.  The 3 1/2" floppy drive from the Sun386i cannot be used with 
	    the 4/65.  A floppy drive for the SPARCstation 1+ is included 
	    with the -P3 configuration.  A floppy drive can also be ordered 
	    as a separate, chargeable line item.
	3.  SC (14" color) and SM (15" mono) monitors are not supported.
