---------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOTUS 1-2-3 AVAILABLE DIRECTLY FROM SUN FEDERAL FOR GOVERNMENT COMPUTER BUYERS SunFLASH Vol 18 #13 June 1990 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Third-Party Software Program Eases System Procurement MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--June 5, 1990-- Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun is now available for government computer customers directly from Sun Microsystems Federal as part of a new program to ease system procurement. The new program, called Sun Federal Third-Party Offerings (S3PO), allows government end-users and contractors to purchase certain software applications and Sun hardware with a single purchase order. Many government customers need to purchase hardware and application software as a single procurement from one vendor. Through S3PO, government customers can avoid the high cost of processing two separate orders or conducting separate competitive procurements. According to Larry Hambly, president of Sun Microsystems Federal, Lotus 1-2-3 is a widely used application in many government agencies. With S3PO, government buyers have a convenient means of purchasing complete hardware and software systems, or unbundled applications. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun combines the rich spreadsheet capabilities of 1-2-3 Release 3 with Sun's workstation capabilities, including distributed network services, multiple window support, multi-tasking and support for large memory. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun has been enhanced and optimized for use on Sun workstations in networked configurations. In addition, files, models, macros and keyboard functions are fully compatible with 1-2-3 Release 3 and earlier versions of 1-2-3. This eases the transition by users from PCs to workstations and protects the investments customers have made in models and applications. In addition to Lotus 1-2-3, Sun Federal also offers complete Ada development systems under the S3PO program. These are the VADS Ada Development System from Verdix Corporation and TeleSoft Corporation's TeleGen2 product. Lotus 1-2-3 for Sun is available immediately. Its list price is $695 for a standard edition, $995 for a server edition and $495 for a node edition. Lotus Development Corporation is the leading developer of application software for personal computers and information services delivered on CD-ROM, and a worldwide supplier of applications software for workstation, minicomputer and mainframe computing environments.
