---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN MICROSYSTEMS AND BELL ATLANTIC BUSINESS SYSTEMS SERVICES SIGN CUSTOMER SERVICE AGREEMENT SunFLASH Vol 18 #2 June 1990 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --May 29, 1990-- Sun Microsystems, Inc., and Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services Inc. (formerly Sorbus, Inc.) today announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement under which Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services will extend Sun's delivery of hardware-related customer service in the eastern region of the United States. The service will be part of Sun's U.S. Customer Service "Strategic Partner Program," and will expand the number of field engineers available for on-site hardware maintenance calls for Sun equipment. Sun will maintain complete responsibility for customer service contracts, management of service calls, escalation of services and technical service follow-up. Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services' customer service organization will be utilized to provide Sun customers with expanded support. This agreement further enhances Sun's growing strength in field customer service. In February, Sun signed a similar partnership with Eastman Kodak to expand hardware service in central and western regions of the United States. With these partnerships in place, faster customer response and repair time are expected due to the greater number of service engineering resources and the extensive geographic coverage provided by both Sun partners. For Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services, the announcement represents a significant expansion into the workstation service marketplace. Sun is the leading workstation manufacturer, with its eastern region representing more than 40 percent of Sun's U.S. installed base. "This agreement a partnership with the leading supplier of workstations reflects our commitment to be the premier provider of service to the workstation marketplace," said Gene Greer, Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services president and chief operating officer. "This new offering complements our current services, which cover micros through the largest mainframes." "Teaming with an existing high-quality service organization like Bell Atlantic allows us to quickly expand our geographic sales and service coverage by assuring our customers of responsive, professional service, including remote locations that Sun does not currently staff," said Brenda Adams, vice president of U.S. Customer Service at Sun. Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services is the worldwide leader in independent computer service, maintaining more than 500 computer brands and more than 5,000 different types of computer hardware. The company has more than 240 key locations, supporting more than 80,000 customer sites. Its system expertise ranges from the largest mainframes to workstations and departmental networks. Its service offerings include software support, proprietary diagnostics, remote support capabilities, disaster recovery, and other value added services. Sun Microsystems Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is the leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX operating system and productivity software. ### Sorbus is a registered trademark of Bell Atlantic Business Systems Services, Inc.
