Sun to Be First UNIX Platform for Popular Desktop Publishing Package SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 17, 1990 -- Ventura Software Inc., a Xerox company, today announced the signing of an agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc., to produce Ventura Publisher for Sun's UNIX workstation environment. The new version will take full advantage of Sun's workgroup computing with the OPEN LOOK(TM) graphical user interface while retaining all the features that have made Ventura the desktop publishing standard for personal computers. Sun is the first workstation vendor with whom such an agreement has been made. "Sun users will benefit tremendously by having Ventura Publisher available with the easy-to-use OPEN LOOK(TM) graphical user interface," said Scott McNealy, president and CEO of Sun. "Ventura Publisher is a key desktop application for Sun and important in Sun's drive into commercial markets." In addition to the new product for the UNIX-workstation environment, Ventura Publisher 3.0 is available for other popular desktop platforms. All of the user platforms will offer the same basic Ventura Publisher features and will have specific capabilities customized to take advantage of the environments in which they operate.
