Since Sun launched the event five years ago, it has quickly become the premier opportunity for system and software vendors to test their implementations of the Open Network Computing/Network File System (ONC/NFS(TM)) networking software, and X11(TM) and NeWS(TM) window systems. There are 290 licensees of ONC/NFS. 13.02 Mentor Graphics On Sun Workstations MENTOR GRAPHICS TO DELIVER EDA PRODUCTS ON SUN WORKSTATIONS MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --January 11, 1990-- Sun Microsystems announced today that Mentor Graphics, the leading market supplier of electronic design automation (EDA) systems, has signed a letter of intent to make its products available on Sun's SPARC(TM)-based workstations. OPEN LOOK is the GUI bundled with UNIX(R) System V Release 4.0. The announcement is the result of a joint development and marketing agreement announced by Lotus and Sun Microsystems, Inc. last summer. 13.15 Sun Net Income Triples From Prior Quarter MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - January 24, 1990 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (SUNW), today reported record revenues for its second quarter of fiscal 1990, ended December 29, 1989. Revenues for the second quarter were $595.4 million, up about 10 percent over the $538.5 million reported in the preceding quarter. Net income for the quarter was $20.2 million, or $0.23 per share. These range from systems to embedded controllers, cell controllers, manufacturing test stations, medical instrumentation, ruggedized products, computer peripherals, communication gateways and routers, and custom products using an OEM's value-added packaging and peripherals. 13.19 Sun Donates System To EUUG Sun Donates Sun-4 System To European Unix User Group MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --January 29, 1990-- Sun Microsystems, Inc., has donated a SPARC-based Sun-4/280 server to the European UNIX(R) systems User Group (EUUG) to operate as the international backbone computer for the European UNIX Network (EUnet). EUnet is the largest computer network operating in Europe. 13.20 OPEN LOOK Available For IBM,DEC, HP WASHINGTON, D.C. --January 23, 1990-- In response to customer demand for the OPEN LOOK(TM) graphical user interface on other UNIX platforms, Sun Microsystems and UniPress Software today announced their intention to offer Sun's XView(TM) toolkit -- used to design OPEN LOOK applications -- for UNIX(R) workstations from Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard and IBM. As a result, application developers can now standardize on a single graphical user interface (GUI) for UNIX workstations. According to AT&T and Sun, the fast-growing support of OPEN LOOK by ISVs and hardware and system software vendors has made OPEN LOOK the industry's leading UNIX graphical user interface. 13.22 SunOS 4.1 WASHINGTON, D.C. --January 23, 1990-- Sun Microsystems today introduced at the UniForum trade show a new release of its UNIX(R) operating system, called SunOS(TM) 4.1, that adds significant new functionality and support for international standards, as well as offering customers a clear migration path to UNIX System V Release 4.0. System V.4 is the new operating system standard developed by AT&T, Sun and UNIX International. SunOS 4.1 is source code compatible with System V.4, so that applications written today on SunOS 4.1 for System V.4 will only require a recompile to run on any System V.4-based computer. 13.23 MT XINU: ONC/NFS For Mach MT XINU Becomes Master Distributor Of ONC/NFS For Mach Operating System WASHINGTON, D.C. --January 23, 1990-- At the Uniforum trade show being held here, Sun Microsystems and Mt Xinu today announced the signing of an agreement under which Mt Xinu will become a master distributor of Sun's Open Network Computing/Network File System (ONC/NFS(TM)) networking standard for Carnegie Mellon University's Mach operating system. ONC/NFS will become a standard component of all commercial versions of Mach to be distributed and supported by Mt Xinu, a leading developer of UNIX(R) system software. 13.24 Ashton-Tate & Sun (Dbase) Ashton-Tate And Sun Microsystems Sign Joint Product Development And Marketing Agreement TORRANCE, Calif.--January 23, 1990--Ashton-Tate Corporation (NASDAQ:TATE) and Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced the signing of a joint development and marketing agreement to make dBASE IV available for Sun computer systems.
