---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash SUN PLATFORM SELECTED FOR HOSPITAL INFORMATION SYSTEM SunFLASH Vol 24 #2 December 1990 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Healthcare Affiliated Services Offers FUSION on Sun. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --December 4, 1990-- Sun Microsystems, a leading workstation vendor, and Healthcare Affiliated Services, Inc. (H.A.S.), a leading developer of software for the healthcare industry, have combined forces to offer an advanced, easy-to-use computing solution that automates many of a hospital's information needs. FUSION(TM) from H.A.S. the first complete Hospital Information System (HIS) software for powerful, UNIX(R) computers will run on Sun's SPARC(R) workstations. It is a comprehensive HIS that takes advantage of networks of multiple workstations throughout a hospital organization and consolidates clinical, financial and administrative information. FUSION uses the many capabilities of Sun's workstations and servers, including networking, multiple windows, multi-tasking and large memory. It has already been installed on Sun workstations in two hospitals in Pennsylvania: Citizens General Hospital and Clarion Hospital. FUSION is an advanced HIS that enables a physician to simultaneously view a patient's medical history and radiographic images, enter notations and confer with a consulting physician. It is also used for patient administration, patient financials, general accounting, patient care, clinical support, decision support, executive information and a number of other hospital-related functions. It will soon run under the OPEN LOOK(R) graphical user interface that is included with Sun workstations. OPEN LOOK simplifies UNIX, making workstations as easy to use as a personal computer. Last June, H.A.S. announced that it would bundle its LabFUSION(TM) clinical lab management software with Sun's SPARC-based workstations and servers, reselling the systems to hospitals nationwide. LabFUSION is a comprehensive lab information system that automates and streamlines data management functions ranging from test requests and sample processing to quality control, printed patient reports and lab billings. Now information available through LabFUSION can be accessed throughout the hospital via the FUSION software. Healthcare Affiliated Services, Inc. is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with offices in California, Indiana and South Carolina.
