---------------------------------------------------------------------------- listing of SPARC information SunFLASH Vol 20 #21 August 1990 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an article from a mailing list called info-sparc. Subscription information is included at the end of this article. -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This comprises a listing of SPARC information. There are three sections: architecture and software chip manuals and data sheets board manuals. Within each section information is organized alphabetically by manufacturer. Please don't request copies of these manuals (especially the chips manuals!) unless you actually have a requirement for them. Some of them are fairly hefty and can cost $$$ to mail (note Sun charges for theirs). I'm sure the manufacturers will thank you :-) This information is distributed in the info-sparc mailing list (info-sparc-request@nominil.lonestar.org). It is maintained by Mark Linimon (linimon@nominil.lonestar.org) and was last updated on Wed Aug 15 17:26:24 CDT 1990. ------------------------------------------------------------ ********* SPARC architecture and software ********* ------------------------------------------------------------ General information: I'm not listing pointers for operating system literature here, other than to mention SunOS from Sun and vxWorks from Wind River Systems (inquiries@wrs.com). ------------------------------------------------------------ Sun: Sun Microsystems 2550 Garcia Avenue Mountain View, CA 94043 415-960-1300 Telemarketing sales: 1-800-USA-4SUN menu 6. Expect at _least_ a 45 day delay. My own experiences with them are _not_ good. SPARC Debugging Monitor SPARCmon User's Guide 800-3361-10 Revision A April, 1990 SPARC Debugging Monitor SPARCmon Internals Manual 800-3386-10 Revision A April, 1990 Remote Debugging Protocol Specification 800-3335-10 Release A May, 1990 SPARCmon is a generic debugging kernel intended for users doing their own implementations using a Sun host for development and debugging. This is NOT the same as the "FORTH monitor" that comes shipped with most Suns (including the Sparcstations and SPARCEngine 1E). All prices as of 2/1/90. Note that the dash number is revision level; newer ones may be available, so ask. ------------------------------------------------------------ ********* SPARC chips ********* ------------------------------------------------------------ General information: the chips are divided up into Integer Units (IUs), which other manufacturers call CPUs or MPUs; Floating Point Controllers (FPCs) and Floating Point Units (FPUs); coprocessors, which I don't think anyone makes; and a variety of cache and memory management units. Note that although the IUs all adhere to the SPARC Architecture standard, the pin-outs differ. There are three camps: the Fujitsu camp, the Cypress camp, and the BIT camp (which should hardly count since it's ECL). LSI Logic and WEITEK make (or made) parts for both the Fujitsu and Cypress camps. Be sure to understand which of the two camps the various other chips interface with. The Floating-Point Controllers are a two-chip solution, interfacing a (generic) floating-point unit with a Controller chip. The TI unit is an example of a generic floating-point unit. ------------------------------------------------------------ BIT: Bipolar Integrated Technology, Inc. 1050 NW Compton Drive Beaverton, OR 97006 503-629-5490 B5000 BIT SPARC Integer Unit - Advance Information MKTG-D010A 07/89 B5100 BIT SPARC Floating Point Controller - Advance Information MKTG-D011A 07/89 B5110/B5120 BIT SPARC Floating Point chipset - Advance Information MKTG-D014A 07/89 B5210 BIT SPARC Register File - Advance Information MKTG-D015A 07/89 No doubt newer information is now available. ------------------------------------------------------------ Cypress/Ross: Cypress Semiconductor Corporation 3901 North First Street San Jose, CA 95134 408-943-2600 ROSS Technology, Inc. 7748 Hwy. 290 West Austin, TX 78736 512-448-8968 SPARC RISC User's Guide Second Edition Published February, 1990 Covers: CY7C601/611 Integer Units, CY7C602 Floating Point Unit, CY7C604/605 Cache Controller and MMU, SPARC Instruction Set.
