Sun has been awarded one of four contracts under the NASA Ames interactive computer environment modernization program. The estimated total aggregate value of the contracts over the seven-year period will be $97 million. This is the second recent major government win for Sun Federal, following the $115 million Navy Desktop Tactical Computer contract that was awarded in August to Sun and C3, a leading systems integrator. Ames Research, with two locations at Moffett Field and Drysden, Calif., will use the Sun workstations for tasks in computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, wind tunnel research, flight dynamics, airborne science and space life sciences. Deliveries are slated to begin as early as November 1989. Sun is supplying its SPARC family of workstations, along with its standard UNIX(R) operating system, SunOS(TM). In addition, Sun will provide the X11/NeWS(TM) windowing system, the XView(TM) toolkit, intuitive OPEN LOOK(TM) graphical user interface, standard Network File System (NFS(TM)), SunGKS(TM), SunPHIGS(TM) graphics software, and C and FORTRAN compilers. The company will also provide installation, support and on-site analyst services. "These two recent government wins show that government users are turning to the performance, power and cost effectiveness that Sun workstations provide," said Larry Hambly, president of Sun Microsystems Federal. Sun Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX operating system and productivity software. ### SPARC, SunOS, X11/NeWS, XView, NFS, SunGKS, SunPHIGS are trademarks of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
