Announcing:  	669 MB embedded SCSI disk for deskside SPARCsystems.

Sun Microsystems is announcing the avaiability of a 669-Mbyte SCSI disk drive.

The new 669-Mbyte embedded SCSI disk drive doubles SCSI storage
capacity for deskside SPARCsystems.  Now deskside systems can achieve
greater capacities INTERNAL TO THE CPU PEDESTAL.  The new maximum
internal capacities are:

	SPARCstation 330	1.3 GB	(2 x 669)
	SPARCstation 370	2.0 GB 	(3 x 669) plus 150 MB SCSI 1/4" tape


First Customer Ship is scheduled for December, 1989 with SPARCstation
330 and SPARCstation 370, internal to the CPU pedestal only.

Upgrades for existing systems will be shipped within 90 days.

The 669 MB disk is form, fit, and function compatible with the
currently shipping 327 MB embedded SCSI disk.   The new disk is priced
attractively.

Packaged configurations with 669 MB disk will completely replace some
327 MB configurations beginning in the January, 1990 Price List.

The SMD disk provides higher performance and greater opportunity for
future expansion.  These features must be weighed against the cost and
form factor advantages of the SCSI devices.


* Sun's SCSI implementation allows for up to four disks per system.  
  However, 12-Slot Pedestal systems are generally packaged with an internal 
  tape, leaving room for at most 3 SCSI disks.  5-Slot Pedestals allow room
  for a total of 2 internal devices (disks or disk+tape).
