The following announcement was made today, 4/5/89: SUN WORKSTATIONS USED ON DEALING FLOOR BY SWISS BANK Network Runs Advanced Micrognosis Software LONDON--April 5, 1989-- One of the most advanced electronic securities dealing floors in the world just went live at Swiss Bank Corporation in London. Micrognosis, a major systems integrator for dealing rooms, designed and installed Swiss Bank's new trading room, which includes more than 250 Sun386i(TM) workstations and sophisticated Micrognosis software. This is the world's first dealing floor integrating digital and video information from several external and internal sources displayed on a single trader's workstation. "Traders need access to both digital and video information from several sources, as well as to applications written under UNIX(R), MS DOS, and other back-office systems. Micrognosis' software combined with Sun386i workstations uniquely integrates these capabilities at the trader's desktop," according to Gary Little, manager of financial services marketing at Sun. The networked Sun386i workstations have been linked to a variety of in-house systems and external information providers via Ethernet using the industry-standard TCP/IP and Micrognosis' powerful Data Distribution System protocols. Other in-house information systems are connected to the Sun workstations via IEEE 803.5 token ring protocol. Telerate, Reuters, Topicline, composite pages and PEDS can be accessed on multiple windows in a single, 16-inch video monitor. Dealers can also cut, zoom and pan standard pages within the windows. If more than one screen is required at the dealing station, up to four slave monitors can be attached, all under the control of the workstation's keyboard. Sun workstations are moving rapidly into the financial services industry because of their price/performance advantages, advanced networking and use of industry standards. According to Craig Abbott, chief operating officer of Swiss Bank, "We chose Sun Microsystems technology partly because their products are able to leverage the maximum benefits from our existing computer systems." Sun Microsystems, Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a leading worldwide supplier of network-based distributed computing systems, including professional workstations, servers and UNIX operating system and productivity software. ### Press Contact: Sun Microsystems, Inc.
