(215) 576-7920 Digital Video Arts, Ltd. Announces the Release of the NewWorld Operating Environment v4.0 Enabling Full Screen Full Motion Playback of Indeo Video Files Under Video for Windows Dresher, PA, September 1, 1994 - Digital Video Arts, Ltd. today announced the release of the NewWorld Operating Environment v4.0 enabling the full screen full motion playback of Indeo video 3.2 files under Video for Windows. The operating environment also features a WAVE audio driver that improves audio/video synchronization under Video for Windows and virtually eliminates the need for an add-in sound card for audio playback through most Windows applications. The NewWorld Operating Environment is a collection of audio/video drivers that interface with Intel's i750R chip set to present full screen full motion video, audio, hi-res still images, graphics and animation. Release 4 supports a variety of i750 video accelerator boards, including the ActionMediaR II board, AMBasic board and Inno Micro's PBB-1100 Indeo video accelerator board. "Our goal is to make full screen full motion video easily accessible to both application developers and application users," commented George Breen, president, Digital Video Arts, Ltd. "Support for both Video for Windows and the Media Control Interface enable the operating environment to do just that. Users can accelerate existing Indeo video applications with ease and developers can incorporate full screen full motion video into their multimedia productions for more interesting and effective applications." In addition to accelerating Indeo video 3.2 .AVI files, an MCI device driver is included in the operating environment making possible the presentation of .AVS format files, such as PLV, TrueMotionR and SuperRTV video clips. Compressed 9 or 16 bit images, including JPEG files, can be displayed at VGA resolutions of up to 1024x768. The MCI driver may be utilized from high level authoring packages such as ToolBookR and IconAuthorR. Beyond providing the driver support for high level authoring packages, NWOE 4.0 provides the run-time software necessary for executing programs created in the NewWorld Programmers Development Kit for DOS and Windows C/C++ applications. Until December 31, 1994, Digital Video Arts will be offering the NewWorld Toolkit free to purchasers of the NewWorld Operating Environment v4.0. The toolkit includes a capture program that will capture 30 PFS full screen AVS files, a 24-bit still image capture program, an .avs to .avi file conversion utility that incorporates image enhancement and an image conversion tool to covert images between DVI and other standard image formats. By combining the tools, it is possible to use the ActionMedia II board with the capture module to capture 320x240 Indeo video 3.2 at 30 frames per second. The minimum system requirements are a 33Mhz 386DX with 4MB of RAM, an ActionMedia II or compatible card, DOS 5.0, Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Video for Windows 1.1. Use of DVA's capture tools requires an ActionMedia II delivery board with capture module. The NewWorld Operating Environment is available separately for existing ActionMedia II board owners, and comes bundled from the manufacturer with Intel's AMBasic board and Inno Micro's PBB-1100 board.
