Unleashed %T "UNIX Unleashed" "UNIX Unleashed", Sams Development Team, 1994, 0-672-30402-3, U$49.99/C$67.99 For those who simply need to use UNIX on a managed system, the tutorial material here is ragged, the presentation sometimes disorganized, and the sheer physical size daunting. With the rise, however, of Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, NeXTStep and other systems of that ilk, many people will be setting up small UNIX systems. For them, this does provide a more exhaustive overview of the capabilities of UNIX systems and software. A complete listing of the topics would be rather lengthy, the table of contents occupying twelve pages. As well as the usual file and shell commands, though, there is at least introductory material for awk, Perl and C programming; troff and macro formatting; tbl, egn, pic and grap mathematics functions; and, advanced process and file utilities. The basics of installation and administration are covered, as well as X and other graphical interfaces. copyright Robert M.
