Based upon the AT&T standard for C++, it also takes account of the quirks and foibles of no less than five of the major MS-DOS compilers. Although it would help if the reader were familiar with programming, no prior knowledge is required. The intelligent and interested novice will be readily able to follow the tutorial. Many books by technical professionals contain "end-of-chapter" questions which are generally useless. Not so, here. The exercises are both practical and challenging. The only item lacking is a set of answers. The book is well worth consideration as a course text. Well organized, readable, and written with a positive mental attitude towards the "bogeymen" of programming, the book includes a disk with source code for all the examples, plus special cross-compilation tools. copyright Robert M.
