From: charanl@aol.com (CharanL) Subject: Book on quitting smoking for women Date: 19 Mar 1995 20:09:42 -0500 A Woman's Way Help someone you love to stop smoking - review of a new book This wonderful heart-touching written by a woman who watched in pain her own mother suffer through numerous smoking-related illnesses. Mary Embree writes in "A Woman's Way" about the emotional aspects of smoking and offers practical ideas to help you or anyone you love to stop smoking. I was moved by the book. I also learned the fallacy of the common myths about smoking. They say once you've quit, even one puff will hook you again. "You're only a puff away from a pack a day." is the favorite saying. But it is not true for most people, Mrs. Embree says. "In fact, studies show, that for many people, the more often they quit, the fewer cigarettes they smoke when they do start up." Now, isn't that interesting. So I guess there is no shame in quitting as many times as you like. One obviously get better at it by doing it. I also found out that Mrs. Embree was a therapist for Schick Stop Smoking Centers and is now a private therapist in Ventura, California. The book covers all aspects of the impact of smoking on a woman's life, health issues such as PMS, weight gain, menopause, diet issues, alcohol, to the emotional dependence and general feelings of well-being. She does not waste your time writing about a lot of case histories but concentrates on issues related to smoking. I really liked her approach. I think this is a wonderfully practical book. Give it to a woman you love and help rid the world of this harmful habit. The book costs $11.95. You probably can find it in the store.
