REVIEW: THE INTERNET SCIENCE, RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY YELLOW PAGES by Rick Stout and Morgan Davis, Osborne McGraw-Hill 1996 This special edition is another in the spin-off series of the INTERNET YELLOW PAGES by Harley Hahn, now in its third edition. Rick Stout, author of the World Wide Web Complete Reference (which I hope to review soon), and co-author of the first two editions of the Yellow Pages has teamed up with Norgan Davis to produce this specialized volume that contains new material not included in the main volume. It's just loaded with more fun things and off-beat places to visit on the Internet. There's sections on Aerospace Technology, Architecture, Aviation, Business & Finance, Chemistry, Criminology, Cryptography, Databases, Ecology, Electronics, Forensics, Genetics, Geology, Holography, Music, Oceanography, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Radio (amateur & shortwave), Telephony, Virtual Reality, Zoology and a whole lot more. Web sites make up over 80% of the entries, but the remaining resources include USENET newsgroups, Mailing Lists, Anonymous FTP sites, Gophers, TELNET and e-mail addresses. Also included is the authors' Web site and e-mail addresses for your suggestions, comments and new sites for the next edition. As with the mother Yellow Pages, this promises to be an annual publication. Some of the fun sites include a visit to the New York City Police Department, the NASA Newsroom, an Introduction to Cryptography, Museum of HP Calculators, and the World of Internet Amateur Radio sites. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this review and spent over four hours visiting a few of the many interesting resources listed in this directory. Definitely worth the price of admission. %T The Internet Science, Research & Technology Yellow Pages %A Rick Stout & Morgan Davis %I Osborne McGraw-Hill %C Berkeley California %D 1996 %O $22.95 %G ISBN: 0-07-882187-8 %P 362 pages, paperbound %K Internet, reference, research, science, (C) 1996 Michael Crestohl Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
