REVIEW: CD-ROM - THE 1995 GUINNESS MULTIMEDIA DISC OF RECORDS Grolier I would think that just about everybody's heard of the Guinness book of world records. This informative and always interesting reference was conceived in 1955 by the famous Irish stout producer to settle arguments in pubs. The book is currently circulated world-wide in a number of languges and has sold over 74 million copies, second only to the Bible! Now trivia enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that Grolier Electronic Publishing has produced THE 1995 GUINNESS MULTIMEDIA DISC OF RECORDS featuring a new search interface to help users find answers. The database contains 15,000 record entries with over 1,000 images. Videos include new audio tracks showing movies of some world record breaking events and objects as well as interviews with some of the folks behind them. This great CD also has a trivia game mode, called appropriately enough "Guess What?" It kept my wife and I entertained and amused for a couple of hours. You'll need a 486DX, 33MHz running Windows 3.1, DOS 5.0, 4MB RAM, 6MB free hard disc space, sound card, SVGA and, of course, a CD ROM drive. If you want to enjoy the optiona; video/audio playback your drive will need to be able to transfer at a rate of 300KB/sec or higher. As a long-time fan of THE GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS I was fascinated and well entertained with the Grolier multimedia version, available in both WINDOWS/MPC and Macintosh versions. If you look around a bit you'll find it at considerably less than the retail $49.95 price tag. %T The 1995 Guinness Multimedia Disc of Records %I Grolier Electronic Publishing Inc %C Danbury Connecticut %D 1995 %O other info %K reference, world records (C) 1995 Michael Crestohl Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
