REVIEW: AIR COURIER BARGAINS by Kelly Monaghan The Intrepid Traveller 1995 This book is sub-titled How to Travel World-Wide for Next to Nothing and it pretty well says it all. I remember borrowing this book from the library a few years ago and found it interesting. Since things change very rapidly especially in the world of travel I am pleased to see that this book has been updated. Essentially, AIR COURIER BARGAINS tells you how to fly overseas for just a fraction of the regular fare. If you are willing to travel at the very last minute you may be able to fly for free. In return for these bargain tickets you are required to give up your checked baggage allowance and limit your luggage to what you can carry on board the aircraft. In most cases this is ONE bag. Also you must travel alone. Other trade-offs include pre-determined stays of one or two weeks with little if no flexibility. The hardest part is knowing who to contact. After reading AIR COURIER BARGAINS you will learn the ins-and-outs of the air courier business, who to call for flight availability information and reservations and an approximate idea of what it will cost. You need to be at least 18 years old, in good health and have a valid passport. As far as your duties are concerned, you are required to do very little. You may never see the shipment you are accompanying, let alone touch it or carry it. Your main responsibility is to carry a large envelope that contains the paperwork for the shipment. When you arrive at your destination you will be met by a representative of the courier company who will clear the shipment through customs. That's it. The obvious question here is: "How do I know I'm not transporting drugs?" Well, the answer is you don't! But it is very unlikely and in the event that some contraband should be discovered i the shipment you are accompanying, the attention would be directed at the person who sent the package, not you. The most you could expect in this situation is a bit of inconvenience, but certainly no more than that. AIR COURIER BARGAINS is a virtual encyclopedia of cheap air travel. Part II is an International Air Courier's Directory of world-wide courier companies, with names, addresses and telephone numbers of whom to contact. This valuable reference takes up more than half the book. It has been updated to reflect changes as of the beginning of 1995. This information is well worth the cover price of the book.
