REVIEW: AMATEUR RADIO ENCYCLOPEDIA, Stan Gibilisco, W1GV TAB/McGraw-Hill 1994 This book contains the As to Zs of electronics as related to the amateur radio hobby. The author, Stan Gibilisco, W1GV, is well known to many radio amateurs; he was the QST assistant Technical Editor for five years and authored scores of ham-radio related articles in many radio magazines. Stan has been a ham since 1966 and has held the Amateur Extra Class license (W1GV) since 1973. Thi AMATEUR RADIO ENCYCLOPEDIA answers just about any question any ham or ham-to-be may have. Want to know what Lecher Wires are? Its in the book. It was also on my Extra Class exam! Ditto with Saint Elmo's Fire, Cross Modulation, Capture Effect and Q Multiplier. In addition to the alphabetical references and illustrations, there are several appendices that contain CW abbreviations, ham radio lingo, physical conversions, and a guide to schematic symbols. Author Stan Gibilisco has done an outstanding job on THE AMATEUR RADIO ENCYCLOPEDIA. He explains technical concepts, some of which are quite complex, in terms that are understandable to non-technical types. The illustrations are clear and plentiful. All in all, W1GV has produced a work that will help both newcomer and old-timer alike gain a better and fuller understanding of the many subjects that come together to make up this great hobby we all share. %T Amateur Radio Encyclopedia %A Stan Gibilisco, W1GV %I TAB Books Div of McGraw-Hill %C New York, New York %D 1994 %O other info %G ISBN: 0-8306-4095-9 %P 593 pages %K Amateur radio, communications (C) 1995 Michael Crestohl, KH6KD/W1 Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
