Bird does give a brief overview of token ring concepts, though serious designers may find the material to be terse and lacking in depth. Once the book gets into the details of components and the various types of cable, the contents are more solid, if rather formularized. Still, the flexibility and adaptability of token ring configuration means that designs may become quite complex, and it is good to have these guides to verify a specific layout. copyright Robert M.
