The early chapters, particularly, seem to meander without much point, especially when most users don't change their CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, prompt or path except at need--but at that point they need more information than, "Don't change it." Later chapters, however, on diskettes, directories, DOSSHELL, DIR, COPY, DEL, BACKUP, and so forth, are more focussed. There are definitely some errors (the chapter on diskettes has the write- protect tab on the wrong side of a 3.5, and "quad density" meant high density, not double), and missing pieces, as well (sticking with the same section, the 3.5 inch disk "high density" notch is not identified). The rather over- enthusiastic endorsement of DOS 6 is a bit surprising. (And MSAV definitely does *not* deserve a chapter to itself--unless it's to list all the shortcomings.) copyright Robert M.
