REVIEW: THE INTERNET by Paul Hoffman IDG Boks Worldwide 1994 This is the official book of the Public Television presentation "The Internet Show". It was edited by show co-host John R Levine who authored THE INTERNET FOR DUMMIES, MORE INTERNET FOR DUMMIES and many other titles as well. THE INTERNET answers basic questions about the Internet - what is it, what can the Net do for you, how do I connect and what can you find once you're there? THE INTERNET covers some technical questions as well, such as TCP/IP, clients and servers, etc, in a succint and understandable manner. The graphics are great - plenty of full-color illustrations to visually explain and clarify. THE INTERNET also covers and explains all the basic net functions and tools such as mail, USENET, FTP, TELNET, ARCHIE, WAIS, VERONICA, The World Wide Web and so forth. This is not a "how to" book - rather it is a "what is" book. It is an excellent overview and introduction to the Internet and its components, to give the absolute newcomer the information he or she needs to know about what the Internet can (and can't) do for them. I would recommend THE INTERNET to anyone who knows nothing about the net and wants the basic questions answered in an informative manner written clearly and specifically for them. %T The Internet %A Paul Hoffman %I IDG Books Worldwide & The COMPAQ Press %C Foster City California %D 1994 %O $24.99 %G ISBN:1-56884-461-1 %P 210 pages, paperbound %K The Internet, computer networks (C) 1995 Michael Crestohl Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
