REVIEW: THE INTERNET PASSPORT - 5th ed. NorthWestNet Prentice Hall The first thing I wanted to know when I picked this book up was: "What is NorthWestNet"? They are a access and networking service provider headquartered in the Seattle area serving users in six states. My next question was about the relevence to users who are not in the service area. The answer follows. THE INTERNET PASSPORT is a comprehensive guide to the basics of online activity and operation and the information is common to all access providers except the well-known services that have their own user interface and documentation. Even these subscribers will learn a lot of useful things in this guide. I would say that it is generic information and so well documented and presented by NorthWestNet for their users that Prentice Hall chose it for the rest of us who do not live in the Pacific Northwest. I found it to be a well presented beginner's guide to the treasures of the Net. Experienced usere will find directions to thousands of new and updated documents and services, discussions on security issues and specialized uses for the Internet such as health card, K-12, etc. There's a brand-new guide on becoming a service provider if this is your inclination. Indeed, there's something for every level user in this guide including plenty of new and wonderful resources and goodies available by ftp, gopher and e-mail. %T The Internet Passport - NorthWestNet's Guide to Our World Online %A NorthWestNet %I Prentice Hall PTR %C Englewood Cliffs New Jersey %D 1995 %O $29.95 US $40.95 Canada %G ISBN: 0-13-194200-X %P 667 pages, paperbound %K computer networks, internet (C) 1995 Michael Crestohl Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
