REVIEW: MICROSOFT NEW YORK - and MICRODOFT HAWAII MICROSOFT HOME Scenery Enhancements for Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.1 If you are into flight simulator flying you'll be interested in these interesting adjuncts for Microsoft Flight Simulator 5. The detail of this add-on is really something, but to really enjoy it you'll have to see it on a SVGA monitor, although VGA will work. Also recommended are a sound card and a mouse. Both Microsoft NEW YORK and HAWAII are seamless in their integration with FS5 and the sounds and time-of-day effects really add to the realism of flying in and around The Big Apple and the Fiftieth State. You can buzz the World Trade Center, enjoy the sunset over the New York Skyline and even take off and land at JFK International or LaGuardia airports along with the big guys. If that's not enough, you can do aerobatics over Times Square! The graphics and sound effects are great. I enjoyed "flying" around the Hawaiian Islands - the scenery is breathtaking. I particularly liked the visuals of Diamond Head and amused myself by making a simulated attack on Pearl Harbor. As I mentioned in my review of MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 5, as a pilot I see a lot of educational and entertainment value in these programs but they cannot possibly approach the actual sensation of piloting an airplane. However, the student pilot can learn a lot about flying while enjoying these very sophisticated games. %T title %A author %I publisher %C location of publisher %D year published %O other info %G ISBN %P pp %K subject (C) 1995 Michael Crestohl Nahant Massachusetts USA mc@shore.net DISCLAIMER: I have no interest, financial or otherwise, in the success or failure of the book or materials reviewed herewith, nor have I received any compensation (other than a review copy requested by me) from anyone who has.
